I come from an extensive and varied aerobic dance and fitness background and have been teaching Yoga for the past ten years. I also teach Pilates, Spirals and Barre - the principles of which are similar. All are based around good alignment of the body, concentration of the mind and awareness of the breath. The Vinyasa yoga classes I teach, incorporate many of the same postures as Ashtanga Yoga but the order and variance of the poses often changes. The Practice can be strenuous, slow or dynamic as the body moves into various positions through both Active and Passive Stretching and isometric holding. The physical and mental exercises are combined with Meditation and breathing techniques.
Practicing yoga improves balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength, while meditation helps keep the mind sharp, relieves stress and anxiety, and can strengthen the immune system
